Privacy Policy
Lander is designed to keep your browsing private.
Effective date: June 28, 2026. Last updated: July 19, 2026. This page mirrors the privacy position used for the live app release.
In short
Lander does not collect, track, sell, or profile your personal information. Your Reddit browsing stays on your device except where the app must talk to Reddit’s API, your iCloud account, or the optional diagnostics described below — which you must explicitly enable.
What Lander does not collect
- Personal information such as name, email, or phone number.
- Browsing history or reading habits for analytics or advertising.
- Location data or advertising identifiers.
- Your Reddit password.
What stays on your device
- Your Reddit session, a session cookie plus a bundled OAuth client token, stored securely in the iOS Keychain and used only to talk to Reddit.
- App preferences such as themes, gestures, and settings.
- Temporary image and media cache used to speed up browsing.
- Optional iCloud-backed settings sync if you enable it.
Optional data collection
One switch in Settings, labeled Diagnostics & Analytics, controls everything Lander can send: crash reports and anonymous usage diagnostics. It ships off. If you never turn it on, nothing is ever sent.
How information is used
- Your stored session is used only to authenticate you with Reddit.
- Settings are used only to personalize your app experience.
- Cached media is used only to improve performance and reduce repeat loading.
- Optional diagnostics, when enabled, are used only to find bugs and understand which features are used — never to profile you or what you read.
Third-party services and optional flows
You sign in on Reddit’s own web login, shown inside the app. You enter your password on Reddit’s page, not Lander’s, so Lander never sees or stores it. Sign-in produces a Reddit session that, together with a bundled OAuth client token, is kept in your device Keychain and used only to talk to Reddit on your behalf. Your Reddit activity remains subject to Reddit’s own policies. Lander no longer offers a bring-your-own API key option, and there is no user-provided client identifier.
iCloud
If you enable settings sync, that data is stored in your personal iCloud account. It is encrypted by Apple and not accessible to Lander.
Crash reports — Sentry (optional, off by default)
Anonymous crash diagnostics, when you turn them on, are processed by Sentry to help diagnose bugs. They carry no personal information and no reading history. If you leave the Diagnostics & Analytics switch off, nothing is sent to Sentry at all.
Usage diagnostics — self-hosted (optional, off by default)
Behind the same Diagnostics & Analytics switch, Lander can send anonymous usage events — which features are used, roughly how often — to infrastructure we run ourselves. No third-party analytics company is involved. Events are keyed to a random anonymous identifier, not your Reddit account; they contain no reading history, no content, and no personal information; and network addresses are not retained. The app’s App Store privacy label declares no tracking, because there is none. Turn the switch off, or never turn it on, and no events exist.
How your traffic reaches Reddit
By default the app communicates with Reddit directly over HTTPS using your session, with no server of ours on the path. Lander also ships Columbia, an open-source, operator-blind proxy we developed and published so that no single operator can link who you are to what you read. Today Columbia is an opt-in for anonymous reading and fails open to the direct path; signed-in actions always go direct. It is available to audit and to self-host — the full story is at landerapp.xyz/columbia.
Data sharing and control
Lander does not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties for marketing or profiling.
- You can clear cache or remove the app to delete locally stored data.
- You control optional features such as diagnostics and iCloud sync from Settings, at any time.
- Biometric lock is available as an extra local protection layer.

Age and regional notes
Because Lander surfaces user-generated content from Reddit, it is intended for a mature audience and follows the age rating shown on its App Store listing. Since Lander does not collect personal information, privacy-law obligations are limited mainly to the services you choose to use through Reddit and Apple.
