Run a scan, inspect each display and keep a useful record.

Scan and score

Choose Scan & score. Response samples and optical patterns run automatically. Sweep a finger over the touch grid, then confirm what you saw. Results show a score, scan coverage and individual tools. Untested checks earn no points, including an unvisited Duo panel. Timing earns no health points; the score does not certify panel health.

Inspect both displays

Open the Tools tab or drill into a saved result. Close the Duo to inspect the cover display, then open it gently to inspect the inner panel. Never force the hinge. A visible crease alone is not a fault.

See the whole pattern

For visual patterns, choose Full-screen for 15 seconds to hide all controls. Controls return automatically; double-tap to return sooner. With VoiceOver, use the two-finger scrub.

Compare under consistent conditions

Clean the screen gently, use consistent ambient light and view straight on. Night Shift, True Tone, auto-brightness and accessibility display settings can affect appearance. Adjust them in iOS Settings if needed. Brightness set inside a test returns to its previous level when the test closes or the app enters the background.

Touch coverage

Swipe across the grid to see where the app receives input. Empty tiles remain untested. In 1.0.1, touch coverage will open full screen with a 30-second countdown, a Done control and automatic completion when all tiles receive input.

Rotation preserves physical areas, and each Duo display keeps its own map. After a scan, review the visual checks and save your result. System edge gestures can interrupt a stroke.

Keep a record

Choose Looks clear, Needs attention or Not sure after inspecting. Open the Journal tab for saved scans and manual observations. Rechecking a saved result updates that scan and its score for the named display. The 1.0.1 update will add deeper score breakdowns, touch maps and individual timing samples. Native sharing lets you save or send a readable report. Compare under the same conditions.

Raw exports in 1.0.1

The next update will add Export raw JSON to scan results, using the native Files dialog. A Journal export will include all saved scans and manual observations. Exports contain recorded observations, field coverage, touched and untested tile indices, original timing samples, timestamps and context. They do not change the saved journal.

Frame intervals and budgets use seconds. Dates use Unix seconds in UTC, retaining fractional seconds. Tile indices run from 0 to 95, row by row across the 8 × 12 map in the physical screen’s fixed coordinates. The file describes its schema and units. Older manual observations may contain only a summary; unavailable samples stay unavailable.

Storage recovery

If a journal cannot be read, export the preserved file before choosing Start a new journal. Foldlight keeps the original backup and never silently overwrites it.

Understand the readings

Touch coverage shows input received by this app. Motion timing shows display-link callbacks delivered to the app. Neither certifies physical hardware performance. Foldlight cannot measure luminance, repair pixels or automatically diagnose defects. Contact Apple Support for hardware concerns.
